This is a no expense spared realisation of an idea to produce a Wax Cotton jacket out of the best raw materials we could find. The traditional norm of such a product, is to make it as a fairly basic, utilitarian product and whilst that has its place, it's not what we wanted to do. We have been concerned to improve things such as 'Spray rating', tightness of the weave, durability of the fabric.
The 80z wax cotton fabric for this coat is supplied by Halley Stevenson's of Dundee, Scotland and is a USA grown two ply, long staple cotton. It is a more expensive fabric than traditionally used for wax cotton and gives a far better drape due to using two finer counts of Cotton yarn that achieve a more compact weave and makes the fabric stronger with improved handling. The fabric also ages much better when using a two ply yarn. It is also much more waterproof due to the tighter weave.
The lining fabric is also 80z and from the same supplier in Scotland and using the same principles of finer yarns and a tighter weave, it acts as a second barrier against the elements to give you one of the most waterproof wax jackets on the market without having to use non bio-degradable plastic membranes. Because we use only naturally breathable cotton, it means your warmth and protection against the elements is also a much more comfortable experience.
If you like the look of a Wax Jacket and want it even warmer, we can add a layer of Primaloft down fill which adds £60/€65/$80 just mention in notes when ordering and we will bill separately. Normally a wax jacket is warm down to 5 deg C or 41 F, ours is OK down to 0 deg C or 23F due to the 2 layers of 8oz Cotton. The Primaloft addition means a jacket like this is warm down to -10 dec or 14F
