The Ariel is a women’s overcoat designed to offer the highest level of rain protection and breathability available in a natural fibre. Cut in a relaxed, loose-fitting silhouette, it combines understated elegance with genuine performance — without synthetic membranes or coatings.

Both the outer shell and the lining are made from Ventile®, a remarkable 100% Swiss cotton fabric widely regarded as the finest natural outerwear material in the world. When exposed to moisture, Ventile’s densely woven cotton fibres swell, forming a natural barrier against wind and rain while remaining breathable and comfortable. The result is weather protection that feels noticeably different from conventional waterproof coats — quieter, softer, and far more comfortable to wear over extended periods.

If you’ve worn Ventile before, you’ll already appreciate how good it is. If you haven’t, the difference becomes clear the moment you put the coat on. Compared with most waterproof garments, the Ariel feels calm and natural, regulating temperature rather than trapping heat and moisture.

Supplied with a detachable hood, the Ariel adapts easily between practical wet-weather use and a cleaner, more minimal aesthetic. As standard, the coat is mid-calf length, though you’re welcome to specify your preferred length if you would like it adjusted.

Optional Goose Down Insulation

For those seeking extreme warmth, the Ariel can be upgraded at checkout with pure goose down insulation. This transforms the coat into an exceptionally warm winter garment, capable of comfortable wear in temperatures down to –25°C, while still retaining Ventile’s breathability and weather protection.

What Is Double Ventile®?

Ventile is a densely woven 100% cotton fabric originally developed for extreme environments. When wet, the cotton fibres swell, forming a natural barrier against wind and rain while remaining breathable.

Double Ventile® uses Ventile for both the outer shell and the lining, significantly increasing weather resistance while maintaining comfort. Unlike synthetic waterproof fabrics, Double Ventile regulates temperature naturally and remains quiet, soft, and comfortable during prolonged wear.

It is widely regarded as the finest natural waterproof fabric in the world.

Care & Ageing Guidance — Ventile® Cotton

• Allow the coat to dry naturally if wet
• Avoid direct heat sources
• Light marks and creases are part of Ventile’s character
• Spot clean where possible
• Reproof only when genuinely required (Ventile relies on weave, not coating)
• Store on a wide hanger to maintain shape

Over time, Ventile softens, develops a gentle patina, and becomes even more comfortable — this is not deterioration, but natural ageing by design.
