This vest is built around what we consider to be the finest Loden fabric in the world — authentic Himalaya Alpaca Loden from Leichtfried of Austria.
This particular cloth has been in their range for over 100 years, a testament to its enduring performance and reputation. It is composed of 80% wool and 20% alpaca, a blend that delivers exceptional warmth, resilience, and weather resistance.
The handle of this Loden is unmistakable — dense yet soft, structured yet fluid. When exposed to moisture, the alpaca fibres gently swell, helping prevent water from passing through the cloth. This natural reaction gives the vest an inherent level of weather protection without synthetic membranes or coatings.
The vest is cut as a versatile mid-layer or outer layer, suitable for countryside wear, town use, or travel. It provides warmth without bulk and retains a clean, understated silhouette.

For those seeking additional weather protection, the vest can be lined in Ventile® cotton, the world-famous densely woven fabric originally developed for extreme conditions. Ventile adds a further layer of wind and rain resistance while remaining breathable and entirely natural.
There is also the option to add pure goose down insulation, transforming the vest into a deeply warm garment suitable for cold winter conditions — all while maintaining its refined, natural-fibre construction.
As with everything we produce, this vest is made by us in our workshop in England, cut and assembled individually.
This is not a technical vest in the modern synthetic sense.
It is a heritage Alpine garment made from authentic century-old cloth, designed to last, to age beautifully, and to be worn for many years.

What Is Himalaya Alpaca Loden?
Himalaya Loden from Leichtfried is one of the most respected Alpine wool fabrics in the world. Produced in Austria and part of their range for over 100 years, it represents traditional Loden at its finest.
The cloth is composed of 80% wool and 20% alpaca. The alpaca content adds softness and enhanced insulation while maintaining the dense, protective structure Loden is known for.
When exposed to moisture, the fibres gently swell, helping prevent water penetration. This gives the fabric a natural resistance to wind and rain without synthetic coatings.
Loden is durable, quiet in wear, and improves over time — a cloth made for longevity rather than trend.
Why Add a Ventile® Lining?
Ventile is a densely woven 100% cotton fabric originally developed for extreme conditions.
When wet, the cotton fibres expand to create a natural barrier against wind and rain, while remaining breathable.
