The Ivanhoe Waxed Cotton Jacket

Refined British Outerwear with Intelligent Detail

The Ivanhoe is a slightly more tailored interpretation of the classic waxed cotton jacket — designed with greater shape and refinement, while retaining durability, comfort, and everyday practicality.

Made to order in England, each Ivanhoe is cut and assembled by us in our own workshop. As with all our garments, production begins only once an order is placed, with a typical lead time of around four weeks. This approach allows us to focus on precision, fit, and finish rather than volume.

The jacket is constructed from two-ply long-staple waxed cotton supplied by Halley Stevensons of Scotland, with a matching two-ply cotton lining. This double-layer construction offers enhanced weather protection, improved drape, and excellent long-term wear.

Movement is carefully considered. The Ivanhoe features an action back with bi-swing shoulder pleats, allowing ease through the shoulders and arms without disturbing the jacket’s clean lines. All major seams are reinforced with twin needling, adding strength in areas of stress.

At the front, the jacket closes with a dual fastening system. A heavy-duty two-way antique brass zip is backed by a luxurious and naturally waterproof wool-alpaca Loden layer, then secured with antique brass snap fasteners. This construction provides excellent wind and rain protection while adding depth and character to the design.

A waist drawcord allows the fit to be subtly adjusted, while an internal waistcoat-style zipped panel adds warmth, structure, and versatility — making the Ivanhoe comfortable across a wide range of conditions.

Trims are finished in French cowhide leather, used at the collar, lapels, elbows, and cuffs, sourced from Tanneries Pechdo. These areas soften beautifully with wear, developing a rich patina over time.

For those seeking additional warmth, there are optional insulation upgrades available at checkout, including Lavalan® Merino or Thindown® pure goose down, allowing the jacket to transition easily into colder seasons. The Ivanhoe is a jacket built with intent — tailored yet practical, protective yet refined, designed to adapt to both environment and wearer, and made to be worn for many years rather than a single season.

The optional upgrades do not just end there. As well as the original  8 ounce waxedcotton, we also offer the rugged (workwear standard), 12 ounce everwax vintage waxedcotton which gives it a heavier more rugged feel. Finally, there is also the option to add a ventile lining which enhances the degree to which this coat is waterproof to another level through entirely natural fibres. In its standard form, it will keep you dry for between four and six hours and the vent tile boosts this to between 10 and 12 hours of warmth in all conditions.
