The Pèlerin is an unlined smock designed with clear purpose — robust, practical, and quietly distinctive. Its origins lie in a 1920s Norwegian army smock, a garment valued for protection, freedom of movement, and everyday utility in demanding conditions.

The outer shell is made from dry wax two-ply cotton sourced from Halley Stevensons of Dundee. This cloth is chosen for its durability, weather resistance, and depth of character. The dry wax finish provides protection from wind and light rain without the heavy handle or sheen associated with traditional waxed cotton, making it particularly comfortable for regular wear.

Unlined & Adaptable

The smock is unlined, keeping it breathable and adaptable across seasons. Its relaxed, functional cut is designed to be worn comfortably over layers. We recommend choosing one size larger than your usual size — this allows the smock to sit correctly, drape properly, and move naturally with the body.

Practical by Design

Functionality is central to the Pèlerin. It features multiple generously sized pockets, offering ample storage for everyday essentials. A drawcord waist allows the fit to be adjusted as needed, adding both practicality and subtle shape.

Fabric & Craft

As with all our garments, the Pèlerin is cut and made entirely by us in the UK — from initial cutting through to final assembly. We work exclusively with high-quality European fabrics, which remain the benchmark for performance and longevity. Each piece is constructed with the intention that it will be worn for many years.

The smock is available in nearly 20 colours, offering a wide range of understated and characterful options. For those seeking enhanced performance, the same design can also be made in Ventile® cotton.
