Robin Hood De Luxe Waterproof Waxed Jacket

This is a no-expense-spared realisation of an idea to produce a wax cotton jacket using the finest raw materials we could find. Traditionally, wax jackets are made as fairly basic, utilitarian garments — and whilst that approach has its place, it is not what we set out to create.

We focused on improving key performance characteristics such as spray rating, tightness of weave, and long-term durability. The outer fabric is an 8oz waxed cotton supplied by Halley Stevensons of Dundee, Scotland, woven from USA-grown, two-ply long-staple cotton.

This is a more refined and more expensive cloth than that typically used for wax jackets. By using two finer counts of cotton yarn in a two-ply construction, the weave becomes more compact and stronger, resulting in superior drape, improved handling, enhanced durability, and better ageing characteristics over time. The tighter weave also significantly increases waterproof performance.

The lining is also 8oz waxed cotton from the same Scottish mill, produced using the same principles of finer yarns and a tighter weave. This second layer acts as an additional barrier against the elements, making this one of the most waterproof wax jackets available — without the need for non-biodegradable plastic membranes.

Because we use only naturally breathable cotton, the jacket offers warmth and weather protection in a far more comfortable way than synthetic membrane-based systems.

Insulation & Performance Options

A standard wax jacket is typically comfortable down to approximately 5°C (41°F). Ours performs comfortably down to 0°C (32°F) due to the two layers of 8oz cotton.

• Lavalan® Merino wool insulation – +£200
  Warm down to approximately -10°C (14°F).
• Pure goose down insulation – +£400
  Warm down to approximately -25°C (-13°F).
• Ventile® lining – +£200
  Provides enhanced waterproof performance. Without Ventile, the jacket will typically keep you dry for up to 5 hours; with Ventile, up to 8–10 hours. Ventile also offers a slightly softer handle.
